   Package J1 under Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway Project when completed will contribute to the development of the socio-economy, exploit strengths of the economy, attract investments and tourism of Nha Be and Can Gio districts of Ho Chi Minh City. The Project will help reduce the traffic pressure on NH.1 and NH.51, make the inter-transportation to and fro the South West and the South East regions not to transit Ho Chi Minh City, save time for transporting goods, shorten the travel distance between Long An province to Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai province and Ba Ria – Vung Tau province and vice versa.

  • * Scope of the package:
  • – Section Km21+739.50 ÷ Km24+503.0 (according to the centerline section).
  • – Start point is at Km21+739.50 which is the end point of Interchange No. 4 (Nguyen Van Tao), Long Thoi commune, Nha Be district, Ho Chi Minh City.
  • – End point is at Km24+503.0 in Binh Khanh commune, Can Gio district, Ho Chi Minh City.
  • – The total length of the package is 2.7635Km, which consists of following bridges: Nguyen Van Tao road – Nguyen Huu Tho road flyover; Binh Khanh Western approach; Binh Khanh main bridge; and Binh Khanh Eastern approach.
  • * Scale of the package:

   The Project belongs to class-A expressway with design velocity of 100km/h for the entire route, but the velocity in phase 1 is 80km/h. The cross section has the breadth of carriage way is 4 lanes x 3.5m and breadth of emergency lane is 2 lanes x 2.5m for both directions.

  • -> Cable-stayed main bridge:
  • – Construction scale: cable-stayed bridge
  • – Span outline: (187.25+375+187.25)m
  • – Pylon: 02 pylons in H shape on steel pipe sheet pile (SPSP) foundations.
  • – Girder structure: RC box girders along two sides are connected with RC bridge deck and cross beams.
  • – The cable structure consists of 2 planes.
  • – Design load: Vehicular live load HL93.
  • – Navigational clearance: Width x Height = W x H = 242m x 55m
  • – Breadth of the entire bridge: B = 21.75m
  • -> Approach bridges:
  • – Construction scale: Permanent structure of RC and pre-stressed RC.
  • – Design load: Vehicular live load HL93
  • – Breadth of the entire bridge: B = 21.75m
  • – Span outline at the route start: 60×2@100+60+56+11@70+56 = 1202m.
  • – Span outline at the route end: 56+10@70+56 = 812m.
  • – Structure of box girder: Cast-in-situ RC on bored pile foundation with pile diameter of 1.2m and 1.5m.

   VNCN E&C has been implementing the works as follows: Construction of the entire Nguyen Van Tao road – Nguyen Huu Tho road flyover, Eastern approach and Western approach; Construction of pile foundations, pier shafts and pier caps of Pier P18 and Pier P21 of Binh Khanh main bridge; Construction of super-structure (box girders) of Binh Khanh main bridge.

   The construction of the main bridge has been suspended by the Employer since 2018 because of the design change and the shortage of funding. At present, the package has been resumed and the construction works at site have been implemented after the Employer arranged the financial source and resolved the design matters.
