Central Mekong Delta Region Connectivity Project, Package CW1B: Cao Lanh Bridge and 200m approach road at both sides (Km03+800 – Km06+200)

– Scope of works:
+ Cao Lanh Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge with approach viaducts. Total length of the package is 2,400m including 2,037m of bridge and 363m of approach road at both sides. Layout of the bridge: 17x40m+150m+350m+150m+17x40m. The cross section of main bridge and approach bridge: 27.5m and 24.5m, respectively.
+ The cable-stayed bridge will have H-shape concrete towers with a double-plane of cables in a semi-fan type configuration. The anchoring is solid and reinforced with pre-stressed cables. The height of the towers measured from the annual mean water level is 123.4m. Piers of the main bridge are located on a system of bored piles D2.5m with length of piles from 85m to 120m (total 56 bored piles D2.5m with total length of 6,160m). Main girders are Pi shape which are constructed with cantilever method.
+ The approach brideges comprise 17 spans super-T 40m superstructure on each side. Each span includes 11 girders (total 374 super-T girders). The abutments and piers of approach bridges are placed on a system of bored piles D1.5m with the length of piles from 55m to 80m (total 364 bored piles D1.5m with total length of 24,056m).
+ The soft soil treatment for approach roads shall be carried out with sand piles and PVD. The part behind abutment is strengthened with the approach slab placed on a driven pile system 30x30cm, with length of 24m.
* General information of the Project:
The Mekong Delta of the downstream Mekong River is just to the Southwest of HCMC, the economic hub of Vietnam and is also the largest city in the country and consist of 13 provinces, namely Can Tho, Long An, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Vinh Long, Dong Thap, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, An Giang and Kien Giang. The Mekong Delta area has experienced a high growth rate in recent years.
The delta area produces more than 50% of the food, 65% of aquatic and 70% of the fruit products of Vietnam. Many new industrial and urban areas have been created but the existing transportation infrastructure does not meet the requirements of the economic and social development and the comprehensive development strategy in the area. The objective of Central Mekong Delta Region Connectivity Project is to encourage the economic and social development of the Mekong Delta area.
