TTO-Ben Luc Long Thanh route-Article

TTO – Up to the end of August 2017, the shape of Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway (Long An – HCMC – Dong Nai) has appeared more clearly with over 4,600 meters of viaduct girders together with piers of Binh Khanh and Phuoc Khanh Bridges rising up to the sky.

Following NH1A to Binh Chanh District, we met the start point of Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway. The section connecting to HCMC – Trung Luong Expressway was under construction. Spans of the viaduct joining with the expressway leading to the South Western region could be seen from a distance.
Nearby, engineers and workers were working hard to meet the schedule.
Link the South Eastern region and the South Western region
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Son, Project Manager of Contract Package A1 under Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway Project said the intersection connecting the expressways was scheduled to be completed by May 2018.
Package A1 is constructed by Halla Corporation (Korea) – Vinaconex E&C (Vietnam) Jiont Venture. At the intersection where Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway connects to HCMC – Trung Luong Expressway, the construction of 3 out of 4 ramps has come to final steps.
“When the intersection is completed and Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway is put into operation, the time to travel to and fro between the South Eastern region and the South Western region will be reduced significantly. We can save from 1 to 2 hours for this journey.” – said Son.

At the interchange where Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway passes over NH1A, an engineer described to us with his enthusiasm the image of this expressway section in near future.
“Up to 2020, Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway will cross the existing National Highway No. 1. The expressway will go over National Highway No. 1 while the national highway will go under”, he added.
There will also be a roundabout on National Highway No. 1 for regulating the traffic flow on this section to prevent traffic jams and congestions.

2 highest bridges in Vietnam
Going under the scorching heat of the midday sun, we reached the construction site of Binh Khanh Main Bridge and approach bridges. This is one of the most important works of Ben Luc – Long Thanh Expressway Project. The shape of Binh Khanh Bridge appeared clearly with piers being constructed.
Binh Khanh Bridge was no more on the drawing board but obvious in front of us.
According to a representative of the Contractor Shimizu Corporation (Japan) – Vinaconex E&C (Vietnam) Joint Operation, they had completed about 50% of construction quantity of Binh Khanh Bridge, which ran 3% ahead of the schedule.
At the end of August 2017, the Contractor was constructing the pylons of the Main Bridge and cantilevered box girders of the approach bridges. Binh Khanh Bridge would be completed by February 2020 as per the schedule.
Mr. Le Ngoc Tung from Vinaconex E&C informed that the construction of Binh Khanh Bridge was applying 100% of Japanese advanced technologies in order to improve quality, enhance the durability and aesthetic of the bridge.
By applying modern technologies, Binh Khanh Bridge construction is of high quality, while costs are saved and construction time is reduced greatly.

According to a Japanese engineer Tomoki Nakamura, all Vietnamese workers and engineers on the site have considerable experience of construction, and most of sophisticated techniques have been implemented skillfully.
“They are willing to learn, eager to learn Japanese techniques to apply in this construction. Workers, especially, do not work on orders but act on their own initiatives. Therefore, the cooperation and information exchange between Japanese and Vietnamese engineers are very good”.
At noon, we got into a construction elevator to reach one pylon of Binh Khanh Bridge at the height of 50 meters (from the surface of Soai Rap River) to have an overview of the project stretching out for kilometers. The clearest images that we saw were engineers and workers constructing the bridge in a hurry.
It can be said that Binh Khanh Bridge and Phuoc Khanh Bridge (also under construction) are highest bridges in Vietnam with navigation clearance of 55 meters. That clearance will facilitate the seagoing vessels having loads under 50,000 tons to sail in Soai Rap river and Long Tau river to and fro the seaport in Ho Chi Minh City.

The life-line expressway linking Ho Chi Minh City with Eastern and Western provinces will meet expectations of people, especially those living in Mekong Delta region who travel to Vung Tau will save a lot of time.
